Sylvia I. Sullivant

About

I have over six years of experience in qualitative and quantitative research in the social sciences. My qualitative data collection experience includes but is not limited to focus group research, individual interviews, and more involved ethnographic methods. I have two years experience in the day-to-day operations of two non-profit organizations.

I am interested in social science research ranging from sociological perspectives to environmental questions. My curiosity and desire to understand human behavior are the drivers of my academic pursuit. I use a multi-method approach to understand the world around me and wish to share these skills inside and outside of the academic world.

Experiments

I rely on experimental design in my research as a means to control as many variables as possible when testing my theories.

I am currently developing a series of experiments whereby voter prejudices are uncovered depending on the type of candidate they are presented.

I am also involved in an ongoing project which examines the ways in which women of color use emotional appeals in their campaign messages and their impact on voter evaluations of them.
